Virk moved into the Upshur Street property, installed floodlights in the alley and got to work on his newest business venture. He had previously operated a Sbarros Pizza and Subway sandwich shop franchise, as well as multiple pizza parlors in Ohio, and knew a thing or two about what to do (and not to do) when it came to pizza and sandwiches.

Despite assurances, Powell Elementary's HVAC will not be working in time for school start, says DGS

By the end of last term, parents and the Powell Elementary principal were afraid their long-time broken HVAC may not be fixed by the fall semester, forcing unvaccinated children to resume school in hot classrooms without proper air circulation. By May, DGS reported that after failing three times to complete a contract to fix the HVAC due to paperwork mistakes, they finally had a repair vendor contracted and would have the HVAC fixed before school started.

Now, DGS says they won’t be done on time.

Crime spree? String of armed robberies leaves one in the hospital

A string of six armed robberies over the last two days – four of them taking place in or near Petworth - have left one man in the hospital and at least seven victims lighter in the pockets. Three of the robberies took place Thursday morning and three took place early this morning. One of the robberies reportedly took place at knife point, and two of the robberies took place at gunpoint. MPD says it is investigating to determine whether the robberies are related.
