You can help support Roosevelt students with experiencing international schools

Students visiting from Poland post in front of Roosevelt High School

As a Global Studies Campus, Roosevelt High School is known for its international programs and students, and again this year is looking for fundraising support from the community to help the program and the students get the best experience possible.

Students have the opportunity to participate in Culinary Arts and Global Services and Diplomacy. This past year through the efforts of program director Julian Hipkins, students were able to travel to France as well as able to host French and Polish students here in DC. Fifteen students from Poland departed Roosevelt recently after spending a week with host families and attending class at our local high school.

Roosevelt student Jalynn said of her recent trip, “The trip to France inspired me to travel more and made me realize people are more similar than we are different.”

Debbie Matties, a recent host family: said she and spouse Russ Hanser are happy to further expand Petworth's diversity by "bringing an exchange student into our home and our community, and introducing the student to the US while learning from them and the other kids and teachers in the group."

Roosevelt student Ariel said of her upcoming trip to Costa Rica, "As African American teens in DC, a new experience in the great land of the Ticos (Costa Rica) would be life changing. Most of us do not get to travel with family or friends, so when the opportunity was brought to us, we had no hesitation in taking it. We have been working hard to fundraise for our trip because some of our families cannot afford to send as off to Costa Rica. We have sold snacks and food, but We still need to raise more money to reach our goal."

Donate today to help the students.
