Have an awesome idea to help local retail? You could get a $1,000 grant to make it happen

Locally owned ATTIC DC and the Awesome Foundation have partnered together to create a special $1,000 grant to give out to an individual, business or organization that can come up with and execute an idea — project, event or product — that supports small, local retail businesses in the community.

The goal is to help with the establishment, growth or visibility of small, local retailers or artisans in the DC area.

Examples of ideas include:

  • A project to dress-up the streetscape in a retail district

  • A community-focused event at a retail location (e.g., a fundraiser based at a local store)

  • Projects intended to amplify or provide exposure to small, local retailers or artisans

  • Your creative, outside-the-box, awesome idea

They are making the grant available immediately due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the strain it's placing on DC's independent retail businesses. Your proposals can be for ideas for either immediate/near-term implementation or for after the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. A winner could be awarded as early as May 24, 2020. Only one grant is available at this time.
