A community meeting on repeat violence brings questions, but answers and solutions are slow

On Monday September 16, 2019, two incidents of gun fire impacted our community near 4th and Taylor Streets. In total, 40+ rounds of bullets were shot in the direction of a house and/or individuals in our community. Bullets hit several houses and the community is scared and angry.

This morning started nice, then police, helicopters and ERT (DC’s version of SWAT) closed down Georgia Avenue between Hamilton and Kennedy Streets (5200 to 5300 Georgia Ave) due to a man with a gun, allegedly barricaded inside 5320 Georgia Ave.

DC Police report no injuries and that no one is in danger.

On Friday, February 15th, surrounded by bright colorful posters and toddler-sized school chairs, a very large crowd of residents and government officials gathered at Blandi's Child Learning Center to talk about the recent shooting at 5th and Kennedy Streets, along with other crime issues in the area.

The take-away? According to MPD Chief Peter Newsham, the intersection of 5th and Kennedy is the most dangerous intersection in their Fourth District.
